At the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Cadillac unveiled the Escala concept, hinting at the brand’s future design direction. The Escala is a large, stylish four-door sedan that features a bold aesthetic while remaining realistic for potential production. This rear-wheel-drive vehicle is equipped with a 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and is six inches longer than Cadillac’s current top sedan, the CT6.
Recently, a video from Autoline Network has reported that General Motors has confirmed the production of the Cadillac Escala, according to AutoForecast Solutions. The rumors suggest that production will commence in December 2021 at the GM plant in Hamtramck, Michigan, utilizing the same platform as the CT6. The Hamtramck facility currently manufactures the CT6, Buick LaCrosse, Chevy Impala, and Chevy Volt.
If these claims hold true, the Escala is expected to serve as a “four-door coupe” alternative to the CT6, similar to how the Audi A7 relates to the A8 sedan. Cadillac has been reluctant to designate the spacious CT6 as a flagship model, subtly indicating that something even more impressive was on the horizon, and now it appears we might have a clearer picture of what that will be.
This comes as a surprising development given the current trend of declining interest in sedans in favor of crossovers. Nonetheless, it seems Cadillac is committed to retaining a place for luxurious large sedans in its lineup. Enthusiasts will undoubtedly hope that the production model closely resembles the striking concept that was initially showcased.
