I’ve mentioned this before, and I’ll say it again: The Tesla Cybertruck would be more captivating if Elon Musk hadn’t set such lofty expectations. While I understand that his ambitious promises have played a role in his wealth, many people would likely be satisfied with the electric pickup’s actual capabilities if no one had touted it as completely bulletproof or faster than a Porsche 911 in a drag race. These kinds of assertions lead owners to believe their Cybertruck can outpace any competitor on the track, only to find themselves outperformed by a C4 Chevy Corvette.

The Colorado National Speedway frequently hosts events like these, and the specific Corvette Grand Sport involved is a familiar sight there. The race rules are straightforward: both vehicles start from a standstill and go one lap to determine the winner. The results might vary if the race were extended to two laps, but that’s not the format used.

For the Cybertruck to have a shot against the Corvette, it would need to excel in that single lap. It does have the power advantage, with even the entry-level dual-motor Cybertruck delivering 600 horsepower, while the Corvette, equipped with a 350-cubic-inch LT4 V8, produces 330 horsepower in its standard variant. However, weight and aerodynamics begin to hinder the Cybertruck, which weighs around 6,800 pounds and has the aerodynamic efficiency of a brick.

The video showcases the Cybertruck taking an early lead over the sports car, navigating turns one, two, and three thanks to its instant torque and all-wheel drive. However, the Corvette driver, experienced on the track and a past winner, seized the inside line into turn four, ultimately clinching the victory. This move prompted cheers from the crowd, who enjoy supporting the underdog — in this case, decidedly against the Cybertruck.

It’s important to note that this isn’t a harsh critique of Tesla. The Cybertruck isn’t designed for high-speed cornering; it aims to stand out and serve as a mobile advertisement for cannabis entrepreneurs. While many appreciate classic American cars, the Corvette simply can’t compete with the Cybertruck in that unique aspect.
