After the global premiere of the Bugatti Tourbillon, Molsheim is now assessing alternative models that could adopt the V16 hybrid powertrain. This encompasses a hypercar with a front-mounted engine that might serve as a contemporary rendition of the legendary Type 57 SC Atlantic.
In a conversation with Autocar, Bugatti’s Design Director Frank Heyl expressed, “Certainly. I mean, ponder the Type 57 SC Atlantic: it’s positioned at the front. Perhaps in the future, but currently, we are extremely content with our chosen path.”
Heyl indicated that Bugatti’s Sur Mesure bespoke segment could craft an entirely distinct exclusive model range or a singular creation. Recent projects like the Centodieci, Bolide, and the bespoke La Voiture Noire are testaments to the company’s inventive prowess.
“We persist in evolving with endeavors like the Centodieci, and La Voiture Noire was extraordinary as a one-off vehicle, and who can predict what lies ahead,” Heyl reflected. “This realm is intriguing and holds promise, especially given Bugatti’s discerning clientele – this element of absolute distinctiveness holds profound importance.
“We aspire to enhance the brand by expanding into a Couture realm – focusing on limited editions, one-of-a-kind creations, and distinctive offerings,” the design chief elaborated.
Bugatti plans to produce only 250 units of the Tourbillon. This figure is half that of the Chiron’s production. Moreover, all 250 units have been already spoken for, leaving numerous affluent buyers disheartened. The demand for ultra-luxurious hypercars is evidently present. It remains to be seen if Bugatti will cater to this demand by expanding its offerings.
