Police Arrest Italian Brothers for Bank Robbery Spree Involving Stolen Luxury Cars and Explosives

Authorities apprehended two Italian brothers today for their alleged involvement in a series of bank robberies where they reportedly used stolen luxury vehicles, explosives, and masks resembling U.S. President Donald Trump. These robberies, which lasted several months, included the detonation of numerous ATMs, as reported by Reuters.

Investigators from the Carabinieri revealed to the local news outlet La Stampa that they had been monitoring the suspects for an extended period. The brothers followed a consistent method for each heist: they would approach a bank in a stolen car during the night, don the Trump masks, use a specialized tool to break into the ATM, place a small explosive inside, and then wait for the money to disperse. It is estimated that they stole over $115,000 from various banks before law enforcement caught up with them on Monday.

Some readers might note the striking resemblance of this case to the plot of the 1991 film Point Break, in which a young Keanu Reeves goes undercover to dismantle a group of bank-robbing surfers disguised with presidential masks. However, Italian investigators referenced a different film to describe the brothers’ tactics. According to a statement obtained by Reuters, they likened the situation to the 1997 thriller The Jackal.

Throughout their crime spree, the brothers utilized multiple vehicles, including an Audi A6 Avant and a Mercedes A45 AMG. When police began tracking one of the cars, they attempted to throw off the authorities by repainting it from white to black, similar to a strategy used by Bruce Willis’s character in The Jackal. Close inspection of the recovered A45 AMG revealed traces of its original white paint amidst scratches on the car.

In the end, their efforts to evade capture proved unsuccessful. Police released footage from their final heist, showcasing both the dramatic explosions and the humorous sight of the Donald Trump masks. The video culminates in a scene where law enforcement swarms the Mercedes as the brothers attempt to maneuver through a narrow alleyway.
