Your RV bedroom should be your sanctuary. However, if the factory decor isn’t to your liking or is showing signs of wear and tear, it’s time to invest some effort into revamping it. A simple RV bedroom makeover can transform your sleeping area into a relaxing retreat.

The good news? I have successfully redecorated RV bedrooms many times, and I assure you that it doesn’t have to be a cumbersome task. With just a few quick changes, you can create an entirely new atmosphere in your bedroom.

Here are my easy and effective tips for giving your RV bedroom a makeover.

Upgrade Your Mattress

To begin, if you’re still using the original RV mattress, it’s time for a change. Those stock mattresses are notoriously uncomfortable, but a good replacement doesn’t have to break the bank. For instance, we purchased our current hybrid mattress (combining spring and memory foam) for under $300 on Amazon, and we absolutely love it.

Set a budget, browse different options, read reviews, and order a new RV mattress. This upgrade will significantly enhance the comfort of your bedroom.

Update the Bedspread

Now for the fun part—let’s tackle the bedspread, the focal point of the room. Choose one that expresses your personality and the ambiance you’d like to create.

It doesn’t have to be expensive. You can find bed-in-a-bag sets for $50 or less, which often include sheets and pillow shams. Personally, I prefer calming, cool colors in my bedroom, but feel free to pick whatever resonates with you for your RV makeover. Just be sure you truly enjoy it!

Add Fun Lighting

One of my favorite enhancements in my RV bedroom was hanging fairy lights above the bed. They serve as excellent reading lights and add a whimsical touch to the space. I opted for battery-powered lights, so they don’t drain our house battery when we’re off-grid, which allows me to illuminate my bedroom at night without using up our precious RV electricity.

Update Window Coverings

If you’re not a fan of the window coverings that often come in RVs, you’re not alone. Especially in older models, they can be quite unattractive, and even newer trailers tend to have coverings that might not suit your style. Fortunately, updating them is straightforward. You can easily replace the unattractive cornices with cute curtains or a valance. If the shades or blinds are damaged, they can also be replaced without much hassle.

Keep in mind that if you go for ready-made curtains, they may be challenging to find in the correct size. Consider searching for curtains designed to cover just half of the window, which often fits better in many RVs.

Apply Wallpaper

While painting the walls of an RV can be a labor-intensive task, there’s a simpler solution for refreshing the look of drab walls: wallpaper.

I recommend peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is easy to apply and many types are removable, making future updates effortless.

Incorporate Greenery

Instead of traditional wall art, consider adding a touch of nature with hanging greenery. Artificial vines, grass, and clover are available in panels and can create a charming “secret garden” effect that nature enthusiasts will love.

Select Wall Art

To further enhance your RV bedroom walls, wall art is a great option. You can find art pieces easily, whether you browse local stores like Target and Ross or try more budget-friendly avenues.

Some cost-effective ways to gather wall art include:

  • Thrift shops
  • Garage sales
  • Creating your own

Creating your own art can involve painting, leaf rubbings, or even framing cherished family photos or inspiring quotes. Let your creativity shine!

Boost Storage Space

Lastly, I highly suggest enhancing your RV bedroom with additional storage wherever possible. Here are some effective ideas:

Over-the-Door Shoe Organizer

My top organization tip is to hang an over-the-door shoe organizer on the bedroom door. This will hold shoes, accessories, and other small essentials, helping to keep your space orderly.

Shoe Storage Around the Bed

A clever idea from a friend involves using smaller shoe pocket organizers mounted around the bed’s perimeter. This allows for shoe storage without taking up precious cabinet space.

Bedside Storage Pocket

Many RV bedrooms lack tables on both sides of the bed. If yours doesn’t have a bedside table on one side, consider investing in a hanging bedside storage caddy to keep items like glasses, phones, books, and water bottles close at hand.

Install a Bedside Shelf

Another option is to mount a small wall shelf next to the bed for additional storage without sacrificing floor space.

Utilize Hooks (Command Hooks and Over-Door Hooks)

Lastly, I’m a big fan of using hooks for extra storage. They can hold jackets, bags, scarves, and more, and I place them wherever there’s a bit of space.

Over-the-door hooks are great for heavier items while Command Hooks can effectively hold towels and lightweight sweaters. Stock up on hooks and put them to good use. You’ll thank me later!

Ultimately, transforming your RV bedroom can be simple and budget-friendly. With a few upgrades requiring minimal time and effort, why wait? Start your makeover now; you’ll appreciate having a cozy space to return to after your camping adventures.
