Toyota is continuing local trials of the upcoming 250 Series LandCruiser Prado before its arrival in showrooms later this year, with a test model spotted featuring never-seen-before additions.

Snapshots shared by Matt Moed in the Toyota Prado Owners of Australia Facebook group display the fresh model refilling in Bacchus Marsh, situated about an hour northeast of Melbourne, outfitted with gear that was previously absent in promotional material.

These additions include a bull bar painted to match the body color – equipped with incorporated LED lights, a winch, and towing points – in addition to a raised snorkel extending to the height of the front door’s seal.

A representative for the brand informed CarExpert, “Toyota Australia is currently conducting local testing for enhancements on the new LandCruiser Prado, slated for release in showrooms later this year.”

Given the thorough evaluation of these enhancements by Toyota on local routes using an Australian-spec Prado, it is probable that these additions will be available in the selection when the 250 Series debuts in the upcoming months.

The images also indicate the growth in size of the Prado, with the impending 250 Series seeming to overshadow the older 150 Series parked beside it.

Despite sporting entirely distinct exteriors and interiors from its forerunner, the new Prado will retain its power from a 2.8-liter, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine – now supplemented with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology alongside the HiLux V-Active.

The power outputs of the Prado (150kW and 500Nm) remain unchanged despite the addition of 48V mild-hybrid technology, but the torque-converter automatic transmission now features two extra gears, boosting the count to eight speeds for improved distribution.

While Toyota has not yet affirmed the availability of the turbocharged 2.4-liter hybrid four-cylinder engine offered in markets such as North America for a local debut, Toyota Australia has indicated that it is actively evaluating the propulsion system.

A comprehensive list of features across the Prado lineup is available here, but pricing details will be disclosed closer to its arrival in the latter half of 2024.
