The astonishing 1,130-horsepower Valkyrie hypercar from Aston Martin is set to hit public roads soon, prompting the company to share details about its track-only counterpart, the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro. This vehicle made its official debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, boasting remarkable specifications.
On Tuesday, the AMR Pro was unveiled at an event alongside Aston Martin’s latest Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car and the Vantage GTE, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to creating the closest experience to an F1 race car available to the public. The announcement took place at Aston’s booth, featuring appearances from AM Red Bull Racing officials, Aston’s Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, and Tag Heuer’s CEO Jean-Claude Biver.
Adrian Newey, the chief technical officer of Aston Martin Red Bull Racing, commented, “The Aston Martin Valkyrie road car incorporates much of the expertise I’ve gained from my time in Formula One, but with the AMR Pro variant, I had the opportunity to go beyond the limits of road legality and practicality.”
At this stage, Aston Martin is keeping specific performance details under wraps, though it plans to share more information as the launch date approaches. Notably, the Valkyrie AMR Pro is expected to utilize a hybrid 6.5-liter V12 engine that produces more power than its road-legal sibling, exceeding the street model’s 1-to-1 power-to-weight ratio. The company anticipates a maximum speed of 225 mph, although achieving high speeds is not the primary focus of the Valkyrie.
Among its distinctive features, the AMR Pro includes a larger front splitter and rear wing, as well as a wider build compared to the standard Valkyrie. To reach a weight of just 2,205 pounds, Aston incorporated ultra-light carbon fiber bodywork, a new exhaust system, polycarbonate windshields, racing seats, and carbon fiber wishbone suspension. Removing the infotainment system and air conditioning also contributed to weight reduction.
The true highlight of the AMR Pro is its exceptional downforce capability, which allows it to generate at least as much downforce as its weight—a feature typically reserved for open-wheel racing cars like those in Formula 1. It is also capable of exceeding 3 Gs of lateral acceleration during turns, making it essential for drivers to be well-prepared before taking the wheel.
