Aston Martin DB5, famously driven by Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 film GoldenEye, is set to be auctioned by Bonhams at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 13.
The DB5 first gained fame in 1964’s Goldfinger, where Sean Connery’s portrayal of Bond helped elevate the franchise during a time when espionage-themed films and television shows were abundant. The iconic car later reappeared in Thunderball and made occasional appearances in Daniel Craig’s Bond films. However, the vehicle up for auction was exclusively featured in Brosnan’s GoldenEye.
According to Bonhams, the current owner acquired this particular DB5 in 2001. At the time, it was the most expensive piece of Bond memorabilia ever sold, a record that was later broken in 2010 when the original Goldfinger car sold for 2.6 million pounds (approximately $4.1 million then). Although the GoldenEye DB5 may not have the same fame as its predecessor, Bonhams anticipates it could fetch bids of up to 1.6 million pounds (around $2.1 million).
Earlier this month, Bonhams also captured attention when it sold the McLaren Formula 1 car that racing legend Ayrton Senna drove to victory in his final Monaco Grand Prix for $5 million, purchased by Bernie Ecclestone, the former rights holder of the sport.
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will take place from July 12 to 15, with the DB5 auction scheduled for July 13. It’s likely that the winning bidder will prefer their martinis shaken, not stirred.
