Subaru has released a brief, dramatically scored, dimly lit preview video of a “fresh SUV.” The design of this SUV definitely resembles the new Crosstrek, anticipated to be fully showcased on September 15.

Subaru in Japan posted a 15-second teaser clip on its official Youtube channel, predominantly showcasing the car’s features in relief or obscurity. Subaru provided minimal details, and the video is oddly low-res, making it difficult to discern fine nuances. The headlights and taillights are clearly visible, hinting at the car’s overall form. All indications suggest that this could be the Crosstrek (known as the XV in Japan), closely related to the aging Subaru Impreza. Subaru’s Japanese website also shared the teaser and release date for the unnamed SUV.

A closer examination of screengrabs from the low-quality video reveals intricate details about the car. The lighting units appear distinctive to this car, with unique headlights and taillights not shared with other current Subaru models worldwide. Comparing the glimpse of metal from the new SUV to the current Crosstrek suggests a significant redesign with alterations in the rear quarter window and rear fender shape, maintaining a familiar design and body type. It bears a striking resemblance to the current Crosstrek in terms of style.

A striking shot shows the new SUV entering a cave, highlighting the car’s front profile. It appears wide yet modest in height, with features such as the ground clearance, tires, and possibly body cladding concealed in deep shadows. Its visual elements largely echo those of the current Crosstrek, boasting a tilted and slender windshield reminiscent of the Impreza.

Although not officially confirmed as the new Crosstrek, numerous visual hints suggest that is the likely case. To confirm, we’ll have to wait until September 15.
