Matte factory colors are not a recent development, particularly for high-performance cars. Nonetheless, many automakers typically limit the number of matte options available. If you desire a more unique matte shade, you usually need to explore aftermarket wraps or paint jobs. However, if you’re in the market for a new
Mustang, then
Ford is set to introduce a clear film wrap for all Mustang coupes and convertibles,
giving them a matte appearance.
The “Matte Clear Film” option, priced at $5,
995, is applicable to any Mustang color, providing it with a matte surface while also serving as a protective film. Ford claims that it can withstand rigorous cleaning processes, such as using harsh detergents, handwashing, touchless car washes, bird droppings,
road salt, and even asphalt residue. One of its key advantages is the warranty it comes with. The wrap is covered under the standard three-year, 36,
000-mile warranty for the Mustang,
making it a more appealing option for many buyers compared to getting an aftermarket wrap installed.
Comparison Before and After! Ford
Starting February 27, Mustang coupe buyers can opt for the wrap, while it’ll be introduced for convertibles later this year. All coupe trims—Ecoboost, GT, and Dark Horse—can be equipped with the matte finish, although there are some constraints with certain packages. Dark Horse purchasers selecting the matte wrap will forego the car’s standard hood accent stripe and the option for a painted racing stripe. It’s also incompatible with the GT California Special kit or optional graphics on the Ecoboost and GT.
Ford has not disclosed whether existing customers will have the option to have this matte film applied to their vehicles at the dealership, nor have they mentioned the possibility of new customers with the matte wrap being able to have it removed by the dealer later if they decide they no longer like its appearance.
Ford
This is a great suggestion, and it’s baffling why more car manufacturers don’t provide it. Not only is it a simple method to achieve a matte texture on any factory hue, but it also offers paint shield and is under the initial guarantee. Depending on the specific Mustang trim you select, there are already up to 11 diverse color options. By introducing a factory matte alternative, that selection essentially doubles.
