Executives at Alfa Romeo have already declared that the marque will embrace full electrification before the close of the decade. However, judging by the anticipation for a potential high-performance vehicle, they might opt to delay the shift slightly. The CEO of the brand, Jean-Philippe Imparato, disclosed to Autocar that Alfa Romeo is strategizing a supercar debut. Despite lacking official approval from the leadership at Stellantis, it has nearly exhausted its allocation of units.
“The vehicles will sell out even before the unveiling,” stated Imparato to Autocar. Surprisingly, the design remains a work in progress. Imparato hinted that the forthcoming supercar may be designated as the 6C. It is slated to feature a conventional combustion engine, reflect the essence of Alfa Romeo’s brand heritage, and be showcased alongside the elegant 8C at the Alfa Romeo historical collection.
Additionally, he emphasized that this supercar will not be solely intended for track use. It is expected to offer sufficient comfort for daily driving and general road usage. This points towards a model that, despite its exclusivity, will be relatively practical.
Imparato also acknowledged the challenging environment for gas-powered supercars in today’s increasingly electrified automotive landscape, especially given the potential high price tag associated with such vehicles.
According to the report, Stellantis will finalize its decision regarding the Alfa Romeo supercar in April, leaving prospective buyers with deposits anticipating confirmation. Should it receive the green light, the supercar is set to be revealed this summer by Alfa Romeo. The exact release date remains uncertain; however, if the project materializes, it will fall within the current generation of Alfa Romeo vehicles, potentially before 2027.
Regardless of its specifics, the potential Alfa Romeo supercar is expected to boast an appealing design. With all of Alfa’s models being aesthetically pleasing, including the stunning Giulia sedan, Imparato envisions the supercar as “iconic, incredibly attractive, and instantly recognizable as an Alfa Romeo.” Indeed, it seems hard to resist leaving a deposit for such a project.
