Following a short partnership with General Motors to utilize its Ultium electric vehicle platform, Honda is now transitioning to its own dedicated electric vehicle architecture. The first vehicle to embody this new framework will be showcased during Monterey Car Week as the Acura Performance EV Concept.

Although the Performance EV Concept appears reminiscent of a creation from Rocket League, it signifies what is forthcoming from Honda’s premium brand. It is evidently a prototype, given its absence of door handles, side mirrors, and exaggerated proportions. Nevertheless, the production version of this vehicle is not too far off; Acura has announced that it will be available by late 2025. Expect to see a closer version in the upcoming year.

Acura is fully embracing its sporty image, featuring an aggressive vented hood, large 23-inch wheels fitted with 295/35R23 performance tires, and drilled brake discs equipped with four-piston calipers. The front end, characterized by its sharp nose and angular vents, is intended to evoke hydrofoil superyachts. Additionally, Acura boldly claims elements like the rear decklid, full-width taillight bar, and substantial diffuser pay homage to the second-generation NSX. Regardless, this Performance EV Concept sets the stage for Acura’s future flagship model, as stated by Acura Design Executive Dave Marek, who noted that it incorporates “a number of design themes that will be seen on future Acura vehicles.”

Upon entering production, it will not only mark the inaugural vehicle built on Honda’s new EV platform, but also be the first model produced by Honda’s electric vehicle center in Ohio. The exact resemblance of the final production car to the concept remains uncertain, but considering the road car is anticipated within a year, the two may look quite similar.

The Acura Performance EV Concept will debut at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, followed by an appearance at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This electric crossover is set to join the lineup alongside the Ultium-based ZDX when it hits the market.
