The Price of Pickups: How to Land a Deal on a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic
Pickups have reached unprecedented prices, making it tough for buyers to find a new truck for less than $35,000—a stark contrast to just a decade ago. But what if we told you there’s a way to get a 2019 Ram 1500 Classic, brand new and with zero miles, for about $21,000? It’s possible, but you’ll need to be strategic and possibly forgo luxury features like leather seating.
Even a year after the launch of the latest Ram 1500 generation, the previous body style, known as the Ram Classic, remains available. This model is still sold new, allowing savvy buyers to take advantage of significant savings on a factory-fresh Ram pickup, particularly for two-wheel-drive versions, which tend to be significantly cheaper compared to their counterparts.
Members of the CleanMPG forum recently highlighted the impressive incentives available for 4×2 Ram Classic EcoDiesels. At Kearny Mesa Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in San Diego, one of the lowest-priced trucks is listed at $21,745, aided by at least ten different discounts. A generous dealer incentive of $5,325 contributes considerably to that price, supplemented by California state incentives. In total, one specific Tradesman crew cab example boasts an incredible $20,575 reduction from its original MSRP.
For those interested in higher-equipped versions, more options are available with around $10,000 in discounts still applicable.
These trucks promise solid performance as well; the EcoDiesel engine offers 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. With the right configuration, this pickup can tow as much as 9,350 pounds and carry over 1,600 pounds in the bed. Fuel efficiency is rated at 20 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway when unloaded.
It’s essential to note that these discounted prices apply exclusively to 2019 models. When comparing these savings to a current-generation Ram 1500 with the updated EcoDiesel engine, the difference in cost becomes evident; for instance, a quick search on AutoTrader reveals the cheapest 2020 model with similar specifications priced at $34,824, equipped with four-wheel-drive.
As dealerships strive to clear out their inventory of last year’s models, these incredible offers are likely to be promoted heavily. However, such reductions may not last long. If you miss out on this wave of discounts, keep an eye on local dealerships later this year, as Ram will want to maintain its competitive standing in the market.
