The Porsche 911 of the 996 generation has always been viewed as a less esteemed model due to its unconventional headlights and departure from the air-cooled engine tradition. Reported by Road & Track, the vehicle in question is a distinct factory creation crafted through a partnership between the Porsche Club of America and Porsche Classic. Dubbed the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe, it features the engine setup from a 996 GT3 and a bespoke design exclusive to this build. Crafted in 2022 as a tribute model, it comes equipped with a ducktail spoiler, a double bubble roof, and 18-inch Fuchs wheels. Clad in Sport Grey Metallic with an eye-catching racing stripe, its interior boasts a Pepita pattern in Black and Slate Grey leather.

The potent GT3 drivetrain significantly enhances the performance of what was initially a standard 911 Carrera. Generating 381 horsepower, it boasts a thrilling redline of 8,000 rpm. The vehicle’s chassis and braking system have also been upgraded to GT3 specs, delivering exceptional handling capabilities.

According to the auction details, this unique vehicle commanded an impressive price of $1.325 million during the Porsche 75th Anniversary Auction in Atlanta. This makes it the most costly 996 ever sold, a model typically regarded as the budget-friendly choice among older 911 variants.

When it comes to rare Porsches, substantial auction prices are not uncommon. For instance, a homage model to Pixar’s Cars, named Sally Carrera, fetched $3.6 million in 2022. Additionally, a 1964 Porsche 904 GTS was sold for $2.54 million over the recent weekend, underscoring the impact of racing heritage.

While the 996 may not be revered as the most sought-after 911 model, it is likely positioned on the cusp of a value upswing as it gains classic status. In time, collectors may come to appreciate this model as a pivotal figure heralding the era of modern water-cooled 911s, rather than viewing it as the conclusion of the air-cooled reign.
