However, justifying nearly seven figures for a Lagonda Taraf is challenging. Constructed on an elongated version of Aston Martin’s VH framework, similar to that of the Aston Martin Rapide, the Lagonda Taraf cannot simply be considered a stretched Rapide. Despite sharing similarities, such as a carbon fiber body distinct from the aluminum structure of the Rapide, and a 7.9 inch longer wheelbase drastically altering its proportions, the internal resemblance is striking. Its steering wheel, dashboard, door panels, and rear seat controls appear nearly identical, aside from the Lagonda’s rear seat displays. The considerable price disparity between the Lagonda Taraf and the Rapide may explain why it didn’t achieve significant sales volume.
The Lagonda Taraf also utilizes the same engine, transmission, and a majority of its suspension components as the Rapide S. Equipped with a 5.9-liter V12 engine producing 540 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transaxle transmission, it embodies Aston’s signature sporty handling without air suspension, unlike its counterparts from Rolls-Royce and Bentley. This design choice maintains sporty handling characteristics, although passengers who prefer a relaxed rear-seat experience might find it less appealing.
Conversely, if you’re a millionaire seeking a luxury sedan that handles like a sports car, the Lagonda Taraf offers an appealing option. Featuring a naturally aspirated V12 engine and rear-wheel drive, it presents a unique combination, a rarity in today’s market. Could this make it worth the $800,000 price tag?
