If you’re unaware of the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf, you’re not alone. Aston Martin revealed its ambition in 2016 to compete with luxury British brands like Rolls-Royce and Bentley by introducing the extremely exclusive, million-dollar executive sedan—the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf. With only approximately 120 units ever produced, and the majority sold in the Middle East, very few customers in Europe or North America were able to acquire one. Nevertheless, now is an opportunity for a wealthy U.S. buyer to acquire one, as this 2018 Lagonda Taraf is currently on the market in California.

Priced at $800,000, the 2018 Lagonda Taraf is actually being offered at a significant discount compared to its original price of $1,000,000. You could purchase this Taraf and an Aston Martin Vantage and still remain below the Taraf’s initial price.

With a mere 178 miles on the odometer, this Lagonda Taraf is impeccably maintained. Its matte Satin Jet Black exterior is flawless with no blemishes, and its Kestrel Tan interior is pristine. The purchaser of this vehicle essentially acquires a brand new Taraf, now available for sale.

However, justifying nearly seven figures for a Lagonda Taraf is challenging. Constructed on an elongated version of Aston Martin’s VH framework, similar to that of the Aston Martin Rapide, the Lagonda Taraf cannot simply be considered a stretched Rapide. Despite sharing similarities, such as a carbon fiber body distinct from the aluminum structure of the Rapide, and a 7.9 inch longer wheelbase drastically altering its proportions, the internal resemblance is striking. Its steering wheel, dashboard, door panels, and rear seat controls appear nearly identical, aside from the Lagonda’s rear seat displays. The considerable price disparity between the Lagonda Taraf and the Rapide may explain why it didn’t achieve significant sales volume.

The Lagonda Taraf also utilizes the same engine, transmission, and a majority of its suspension components as the Rapide S. Equipped with a 5.9-liter V12 engine producing 540 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transaxle transmission, it embodies Aston’s signature sporty handling without air suspension, unlike its counterparts from Rolls-Royce and Bentley. This design choice maintains sporty handling characteristics, although passengers who prefer a relaxed rear-seat experience might find it less appealing.

Conversely, if you’re a millionaire seeking a luxury sedan that handles like a sports car, the Lagonda Taraf offers an appealing option. Featuring a naturally aspirated V12 engine and rear-wheel drive, it presents a unique combination, a rarity in today’s market. Could this make it worth the $800,000 price tag?
