While 007 may be no more, the V12 engine continues to thrive. Ferrari has named their latest V12 GT after its engine, and Aston Martin is stepping into the ring with its powerful new model, the Vanquish. Although launch images showcased the car’s striking design, experiencing its presence in person was a different thrill, which we were fortunate enough to do last week.
The refreshed Vanquish boasts a larger frame, crafted under the guidance of Marek Reichmann. This model aligns with Aston Martin’s recent design trend, which includes a larger grille and streamlined body lines. In contrast to its predecessor that shared components with the DB11, the new Vanquish is entirely unique.
The front of the Vanquish showcases a 13% larger grille, complemented by air ducts designed to cool the brakes. Ditching the front clamshell in favor of a traditional inset bonnet and moving away from the floating roof design, it presents a more aggressive stance. Newly designed side openings and strakes add to its fresh appearance, but the most remarkable transformation occurs at the rear.
In a distinct Kamm-style design, the rear end features a cut-off shape and custom LED lights. The inner body can be customized with carbon fiber or body color, providing a visually striking floating effect. Below, four substantial exhaust outlets incorporate an optional titanium back-box that enhances sound and reduces weight by 10.5 kilograms compared to the standard setup.
Inside, the Vanquish showcases Aston Martin’s updated control systems paired with an enhanced infotainment setup, all integrated into a newly designed dashboard and center console. Space behind the front seats is optimized for fitted luggage, boosting the overall storage capacity to 248 liters, which enhances its grand touring appeal.
The new Vanquish has been designed with a dual purpose. Although it’s a two-seater, it leans more towards grand tourer than its predecessors, potentially paving the way for a sportier model in Aston Martin’s lineup—possibly a mid-engined vehicle called Valhalla. Only time will tell, but we are optimistic that Bond will soon be seen driving an Aston again.
