Year, Make, Model: 2020 Mazda CX-30

Overview: Mazda unveiled its latest compact crossover, the CX-30, at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Contrary to what some might think, it’s not just multiple CX-3s linked together.

New Features: The CX-30 shares its foundation with the redesigned Mazda3 and is the second vehicle to embody Mazda’s “refined quality” philosophy. As a result, it closely resembles the Mazda3 in interior design and offers the same engine options. Initially, it will be equipped with a 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine, with an innovative Skyactiv-X engine featuring Spark Controlled Compression Ignition technology expected in the future.

In line with the Mazda3, the CX-30 will offer all-wheel drive (with front-wheel drive as standard) and includes G-Vectoring Control Plus—an advanced system that utilizes brakes to enhance handling in both emergency and sporty driving situations. Additionally, a six-speed manual transmission will also be available as an option.

In terms of design, the CX-30 continues to showcase Mazda’s elegant Kodo design language, featuring a signature Mazda front end complemented by a rear profile reminiscent of the Jaguar I-Pace. Overall, it presents an appealing aesthetic.

Key Quote: In a statement reminiscent of Marie Kondo’s philosophy, CX-30 program manager Naohito Saga expressed, “Mazda aspires for drivers and their passengers to genuinely appreciate how car ownership can enhance their lifestyle. We crafted the Mazda CX-30 to inspire customers to discover new experiences within their daily lives and share those moments with loved ones.”

Saga-san further noted, “The design must reflect the joy of possessing a vehicle that aligns with your tastes. The interior needed to be spacious enough to foster enjoyable experiences with friends and family. Ultimately, the car’s performance must be exceptional, ensuring comfort and tranquility for everyone on board to fully enjoy the journey.”

With its innovative Skyactiv-X ignition technology, the CX-30 could redefine the concept of “spark joy.”

Essential Information: The CX-30 is positioned between the CX-3 and CX-5 in size, featuring a wheelbase 88 millimeters longer than the CX-3 and 15 mm greater ground clearance, while maintaining the same overall height.

An 8.8-inch display is located on the dashboard, and Mazda’s i-Activsense safety technology is included, featuring a Driver Monitoring system that helps keep the driver alert and the vehicle out of accidents.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 is expected to arrive in dealerships early next year.
