A recent report reveals that the North American Elantra GT, essentially a rebranded Hyundai i30, will not receive the complete N high-performance upgrade. Instead, it will be available in a slightly enhanced N-Line version.

The first model to debut under Hyundai’s N performance label was the i30 N hot hatch, which is unfortunately not available in the North American market. However, a document from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, discovered by Jalopnik, mentions a vehicle referred to as the “Elantra GT N Line” in a Hyundai VIN decoding guide for the 2019 model year.

UPDATE: In correspondence with The Drive, a Hyundai representative confirmed that an N-Line Elantra GT is indeed in development.

Hyundai’s N-Line models are designed with sportier aesthetics and components that are tuned for a more dynamic driving experience, though they fall short of the full N performance standard. They can be likened to Audi’s S Line, BMW M Performance, or Lexus’s F Sport offerings.

According to the report, the upcoming N-Line hatchback will not feature a new engine but will instead utilize the existing powertrains found in the standard Elantra GT. This includes a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder, producing 161 and 201 horsepower, respectively.

In Europe, Hyundai already offers the i30 with an N-Line trim, which boasts more aggressive front and rear designs, dual exhaust tips, supportive seats, aluminum pedals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and ample N-Line branding. In terms of performance enhancements, it comes equipped with larger front brakes, sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and a sportier engine and suspension tuning.
