From October 24 to 28, 2024, Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre will welcome the famous Italian Navy training ship, Amerigo Vespucci. This nearly century-old vessel is making stops around the world to showcase Italian heritage, providing a unique chance for Singaporeans to delve into Italy’s rich maritime history and cultural achievements.
Known as “the most beautiful ship in the world,” the Amerigo Vespucci will arrive in Singapore as part of its 25th port of call. It will be accompanied by Villaggio Italia, a vibrant celebration of Italian art, culture, cuisine, and innovation. This floating exhibition invites guests to indulge in a sensory experience featuring Italy’s notable contributions, including music, cinema, technology, and scientific advancements.
The official welcome will commence with a ceremony on October 24, highlighting dignitaries from both Italy and Singapore. Among the distinguished guests will be Italy’s Deputy Minister of Enterprise, Valentino Valentini; Italian Ambassador to Singapore, H.E. Dante Brandi; and the Navy’s Chief of Staff, Admiral Enrico Credendino. This evening is expected to blend diplomacy with a tribute to Italy’s global stature.
From Thursday evening until Sunday, the public will have the chance to board the Amerigo Vespucci to discover its storied history. Visitors will learn about the ship’s important role in training naval officers and how it symbolizes Italy’s maritime heritage on the world stage.
As a part of the Amerigo Vespucci World Tour, the Villaggio Italia will turn the Marina Bay Cruise Centre into a lively center of Italian culture. Visitors can expect a diverse array of activities, including art exhibitions, musical performances, and discussions centered on sustainability, technology, and innovative research. This exhibition aims to promote dialogue on vital topics such as entrepreneurship and prospective markets.
Supported by Italy’s Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, this tour highlights Italy’s strengths, showcasing its naval capabilities and entrepreneurial attitude. Confindustria, Italy’s primary association for manufacturing and services, will also unveil its 12th “Exporting the Dolce Vita” Report at Singapore’s Villaggio Italia, analyzing the export potential of Italy’s premium products, particularly in fashion, food, nautical, and woodworking sectors.
