By now, we have all come to recognize the impressive acceleration abilities of Tesla’s flagship Model S. Each new high-performance iteration of Elon Musk’s wünder-sedan sets a new standard for what can be classified as a fast luxury vehicle—and the latest version, the Model S P100D, is no different. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 2.3 seconds. Furthermore, as revealed by the team at DragTimes, it also achieved an exceptional quarter-mile time of 10.723 seconds at 121.49 miles per hour, outperforming most muscle cars on the market.

This impressive drag time, recorded last Friday at the Palm Beach International Raceway, represents the fastest official quarter-mile performance ever achieved by a Model S. It’s worth noting that the blue P100D had a few enhancements; as reported by Teslarati, the vehicle was fitted with wider tires than the standard Model S and sported lightweight TSW wheels. This ultimately enabled it to outperform a modified fifth-generation Chevy Camaro ZL1, which recorded a time of 11.233 seconds at 132.14 mph. (For context, the stock fifth-gen ZL1 managed a time of 12.3 at 119 mph in testing by Car and Driver.)

To compare the performance of the enhanced model with a stock version, the DragTimes team also tested a brand new Model S P100D (the white vehicle shown in the video). Despite its standard tires and additional weight from features like the panoramic glass roof and seven-seat interior, this factory-spec Tesla recorded a quarter-mile time of 10.875 seconds at a trap speed of 121.45 mph.
