Lexus plans to introduce a three-row variant of its popular mid-size RX SUV at the Tokyo Motor Show this October, as reported by the Japanese magazine Mag-X.
These three-row models will carry an “L” suffix, appearing as the RX 350L and RX 450hL in Lexus’s lineup. In contrast to some competitors, this “L” designation will not indicate an extended wheelbase; instead, the additional space for the third row will come from a larger rear overhang. Interestingly, Mag-X mentions that the comfort in the RX’s third row leaves much to be desired, with limited legroom and a lack of views due to Lexus maintaining its “floating” D-pillar design from the two-row version, resulting in style overshadowing practicality.
The engine options for the larger RX models are anticipated to mirror those of their current counterparts. The RX 350L is expected to feature a 295-hp, 3.5-liter V6 engine, while the RX 450hL will combine a hybrid electric motor with the same gasoline V6, generating a total of 308 hp. Additionally, the distinctive Gillette-inspired grille design is likely to remain unchanged.
The starting price for the five-seat Lexus RX 350 is $43,120, and it is reasonable to expect the new long-body versions to be priced several thousand dollars higher. The Tokyo Motor Show will be held from October 27th to November 5th this year.
