BMW appears to have expanded its model lineup significantly, even creating four-door variations of two-door models. However, one notable absence has been a full-size, seven-seat SUV. To address this gap, the company is set to unveil its new X7 Concept on Friday. Despite the official reveal being still a day away, images of the vehicle were shared on the Bimmerpost forum late Wednesday night.

The X7 Concept showcases a prominent kidney grille that is both taller and narrower than those found on most BMW models in the last quarter-century. This design vaguely resembles features from the original E23 7-Series grille and the classic 2002. In contrast, the four headlights are narrow and may incorporate laser technology. A small door marked with the letter “i” positioned near the driver’s door likely serves as a charging port, suggesting that the X7 Concept will be a plug-in hybrid akin to the 740e.

From a side view, the X7 Concept is mostly recognizable as a BMW thanks to the traditional Hofmeister kink in the rear window. However, it largely resembles other three-row SUVs, featuring some oddly shaped lines reminiscent of hockey sticks. These design elements might hint at the sporty nature of family life, as owners will likely use the vehicle for transporting children to activities. It remains uncertain whether these features will carry over to the production version. Additionally, the “E-drive” badge on the D-pillar further indicates the hybrid drivetrain of the X7 Concept.

At the back, aside from some unusual vertical vents, the X7 Concept maintains a standard BMW look—neither particularly striking nor unattractive.

Inside, the cabin has a slightly futuristic feel but does not deviate significantly from typical BMW expectations. Controls appear familiar, featuring a large infotainment screen that integrates seamlessly with the dashboard, diverging from the trend of screens that seem awkwardly affixed to the dashboard. The gauge cluster display includes readings for speed and available electrical power, reinforcing the notion that the X7 Concept will be a hybrid.

Feedback on the Bimmerpost forum has not been overly enthusiastic. Many users believe the design bears a resemblance to the Volvo XC90, with others comparing it to the Cadillac Escalade or Lexus LX. The consensus among commenters is that the X7 Concept’s aesthetics leave much to be desired, as they hope the final production model will be more visually appealing.

BMW’s official announcement of the X7 Concept, along with more comprehensive details, is anticipated on Friday..
