Following the noteworthy third-generation RDX and the elegantly revamped TLX, Acura is gearing up for a comeback with an exciting announcement regarding its latest MDX SUV. This vehicle marks the third and most significant milestone in the automaker’s ongoing efforts to revitalize its lineup.
With over 1 million units sold, the MDX accounts for a third of all Acuras sold in the United States since its launch at the start of the millennium. Not only is it Acura’s top seller, but it also holds the title of America’s best-selling three-row luxury SUV ever. Thus, creating a new iteration is a substantial undertaking.
To generate excitement ahead of its launch, Acura has shared a brief video along with a vibrant pink-and-purple sketch that offers an initial look at the upcoming MDX Prototype. This prototype is intended to give insights into how the fully developed fourth-generation MDX will appear when it debuts in the near future.
Regarding the timeline for the production-ready model, Acura has not provided specific details.
The Acura MDX Prototype is set to officially unveil on October 14, showcasing what the manufacturer describes as the “most ambitious redesign ever” for this model.
Fans of Acura should recall the new MDX’s front and side profile, which was leaked over a year ago via hidden files found in the RDX’s system software. However, this release provides the first look at the SUV’s rear and roof. The rear seems to feature taillights reminiscent of those found on the new TLX, while the roof boasts a substantial moonroof.
Acura indicates that the next-generation crossover will be longer, wider, and lower than the current model. While it remains uncertain if the new MDX will include striking purple streaks, speculation surrounds the eventual Type S variant.
