When Lamborghini revealed that its high-performance Huracan Performante completed a lap at the Nürburgring in 6:52.01, it caught many by surprise. The previous record was held by the Porsche 918 Spyder, a car equipped with cutting-edge hybrid technology, while the Lamborghini relies solely on traditional engineering. The Huracan Performante’s 5.2-liter V10 engine has been slightly modified to generate 631 horsepower, which is an increase of 29 horsepower compared to the standard model. However, as Jeremy Clarkson points out, sheer power isn’t everything.

To enhance its lap performance, Lamborghini introduced a state-of-the-art active aerodynamics system known as “ALA,” short for Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva. Interestingly, “ala” also means “wing” in Italian, which reflects its function. This system utilizes two sets of flaps—one positioned at the front behind the splitter and another functioning with the rear spoiler. These electronically-controlled flaps can either open or close, allowing for reduced drag when speed is a priority or increased downforce during cornering maneuvers. Additionally, the rear wing contains an internal air channel that can direct airflow to either side of the vehicle, enabling aerodynamic vectoring.
