If a child had been born on the day Lexus initiated the development of the LC’s new stylish blue paint, that individual would now be just one year away from being eligible to drive.
To be clear, Lexus dedicated an impressive 15 years to create what they refer to as Structural Blue. This innovative color was inspired by the blue Morpho butterfly and features an extraordinarily iridescent tone that changes continually as light interacts with it. Lexus asserts that regular blue automotive paint reflects less than 50 percent of incoming light in blue wavelengths, while Structural Blue reflects nearly 100 percent. In simple terms, this means it captures almost all the blue light—truly vibrant and remarkably reflective.
Found exclusively on the LC Structural Blue Edition, each vehicle requires eight months, 12 production steps, and 20 quality checks to complete. Consequently, only two Structural Blue LCs are produced daily at Motomachi, which is renowned as the home of the LFA supercar. Besides the eye-catching paint, the Structural Blue Editions of the LC also feature carbon scuff plates and a striking blue-and-orange Alcantara interior.
Even though our metaphorical Structural Blue baby is nearing their time to obtain a learner’s permit, it’s improbable that a $100,000 Lexus, which took nearly a lifetime to perfect, would be the car they’d use for their driver’s education.
