The Aston Martin DB11 is currently earning praise for the automaker, but the upcoming Vantage is the model that enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating. This new sports car, comparable in size to the Porsche 911, is expected to feature AMG’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine—the same powerplant that Aston Martin recently announced will be included in the DB11 lineup. It will also likely offer both manual and automatic transmission options. However, glimpses of the new Vantage have been obscured by the heavy camouflage cloaking its prototypes.

Recent developments have shed some light on this situation. New images, likely depicting the design sketches for the 2018 Aston Martin Vantage, have surfaced online, providing a clearer view of what to expect from the British sports car brand’s future.

These pictures were discovered in a filing with the Japanese patent office by the team at AutoGuide.com. While the sleek design unmistakably reflects the Aston Martin heritage, it marks a significant departure from the aging aesthetics of the current Vantage. The front design is reminiscent of the DB10 featured in the latest James Bond film, combined with elements from the track-exclusive Vulcan supercar. Meanwhile, the rear end bears some resemblance to the upcoming Fisker EMotion electric vehicle. Nevertheless, the side profile and top view maintain the signature Aston Martin look.

With the DB11 having been on the market for over a year and the convertible version not debuting until 2018, there’s a strong possibility that the new Aston Martin Vantage will make its official appearance this year—at least, that’s our hope..
