At The Drive, we have always favored Lego model cars over traditional metal toy cars with intricate details. Perhaps it’s because when Lego cars collide, they spectacularly explode into pieces, allowing for easy reconstruction. Now, there’s an exciting new Lego model based on the recently revealed McLaren 720S, which you can crash without hesitation, scattering plastic blocks everywhere.
This Lego 720S set includes a Lego figure representing a car designer, a sketch desk complete with a coffee cup, and all the necessary pieces to assemble the car—though it lacks the real-life 710-horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine.
However, to be candid, based on the images released by McLaren, this Lego version doesn’t fully capture the essence of the actual 720S. Sure, it somewhat resembles the roofline and comes in orange, but it falls short of doing the 720S justice. Perhaps we are a bit spoiled after seeing the impressive Lego Technic Porsche 911, which is truly outstanding.
According to McLaren’s announcement, a Lego designer dedicated a year to creating this model, so they deserve some recognition for their effort.
The 720S Lego set is set to hit the market in England for approximately $16 in June.
