Alec Baldwin is set to portray an ambitious character in his latest project, adding to his impressive filmography that includes titles like Glengarry Glen Ross and Boss Baby. In a biopic tentatively named Lamborghini – The Legend, he will play Enzo Ferrari, sharing the screen with Antonio Banderas, who takes on the role of Ferruccio Lamborghini. This information comes from The Hollywood Reporter.

This film should not be confused with the Michael Mann-directed biopic that will feature Christian Bale as Enzo Ferrari. The screenplay for Lamborghini – The Legend is being crafted by Bobby Moresco, who is known for Crash and Million Dollar Baby, and it will be directed by Michael Radford. The story draws inspiration from the book Ferruccio Lamborghini: La storia ufficiale (The Official Story), authored by Ferruccio’s son, Tonino Lamborghini. He articulated his vision for the film, stating:

"My book Ferruccio Lamborghini: La storia ufficiale is the only text that faithfully respects the true life of my father, despite the many legends and anecdotes shared by others seeking fame. I sincerely believe this film can visually and verbally capture Ferruccio’s profound humanity and convey his vibrant personality filled with energy, charisma, and passion."

The biopic is poised to explore the full life of Ferruccio Lamborghini, charting his journey from making farm equipment to his military vehicle experiences during World War II, culminating in the famous rivalry with Enzo Ferrari that ultimately led to the establishment of his supercar empire. Expect a narrative that is less about racing, like in Rush, and more akin to the story explored in Steve Jobs.

According to legend, Ferruccio Lamborghini became frustrated with the Ferrari 250GT’s poor customer service, inadequate clutch, and discomfort while driving. After expressing his concerns to Enzo Ferrari, he was dismissed and told to stick to his tractors. Infuriated, Lamborghini began to utilize some tractor parts to create a competitive vehicle to rival Ferrari. Notably, around the same time, Enzo was involved in a significant feud with the Ford Motor Company, resulting in the creation of the iconic Ford GT40 and its successors.

And, oh dear—am I too late to offer a ‘spoiler alert’ for the upcoming film featuring Baldwin and Banderas? My apologies if that’s the case.
