Bugatti Chiron Unveiled in Exposed Carbon Fiber to Promote Champagne to Wealthy Tycoons

Bugatti recently unveiled a striking, unpainted carbon fiber version of its Chiron in a promotional event for a special champagne created to mark the company’s 110th anniversary, which is set for 2019.

You may wonder what the connection is between carbon fiber and wine. The link traces back to 2002, during the development of the Veyron, a pivotal car for Bugatti’s resurgence in the automotive world. A vineyard named Champagne Carbon harvested its grapes for champagne and pinot noir in a favorable 9:1 ratio that year.

The resulting champagne reached its peak maturity in 2018, aligning perfectly with Bugatti’s buildup to its 110th anniversary. The two entities collaborated to name the wine ƎB.01, consistent with Bugatti’s unique naming conventions. What unites both the wine and the car is their shared carbon exterior. To commemorate this special occasion, Bugatti’s president, Stephan Winkelmann, took Champagne Carbon’s CEO, Alexandre Mea, for a test drive in the carbon-coated Chiron.

In images released by Bugatti, Mea’s awe while riding in the $3 million, 1,500 horsepower vehicle is apparent. Although he initially sampled the champagne, he refrained from taking the Chiron for a spin until the following day.

"We are excited to embark on this adventure with Bugatti. Positioned at the intersection of tradition and innovation, excellence and technology, Bugatti’s uncompromising standards resonate with us, mirroring our philosophy towards champagne," Mea expressed. He likely envisioned the Chiron or its counterpart, the Divo, while delivering these sentiments. "Our endless quest for perfection and a tireless commitment to innovation naturally drew us to a distinguished brand like Bugatti, which continues to redefine luxury."

A representative from Bugatti informed The Drive that Champagne Carbon will not limit sales of this celebratory wine to Bugatti owners. Instead, it will be available through select Bugatti showrooms in 2019, as well as through Champagne Carbon’s usual sales channels.

While it’s easier to partake in the experience of driving a hypercar than to appreciate wine, adverse weather conditions restricted Bugatti to releasing only two photos of the carbon fiber Chiron. The Drive has requested additional images, which will be shared if they become available.
