Just over a year after its debut, the first production model of the GMC Hummer EV has officially come off the assembly line at Factory Zero in Detroit.

The inaugural vehicle, an Interstellar White Edition 1 with VIN 001, fetched an impressive $2.5 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction earlier this year. The proceeds from this sale were donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a non-profit that focuses on fundraising to build mortgage-free, accessible smart homes for severely injured veterans. The organization also provides mortgage-free housing for Gold Star families and the families of first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty. Tunnel to Towers was established in memory of Stephen Siller, a firefighter who died while trying to save others during the 9/11 attacks.

The new Hummer EV is the first production vehicle to utilize GM’s Ultium electric platform, boasting an impressive 1,000 horsepower. It features a claimed driving range of 329 miles, four-wheel steering that includes a diagonal Crab Walk function, adaptive air suspension, GM’s Super Cruise advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), and an exciting launch control system called “Watts to Freedom” (WTF), which can accelerate the Hummer from zero to 60 mph in roughly three seconds.

In a recent test drive, my colleague Peter Holderith referred to it as the “best Hummer yet” and declared it the “most foolproof way to resurrect the brand for modern times.” He praised the electric truck’s advanced technology, noting its impressive performance both on the road and off. The automotive community is eager to see if the production version will meet these expectations.
