While it’s no longer just a less exciting alternative to the Toyota Camry, the Nissan Altima stands out as an appealing option for those seeking an affordable mid-size sedan that values understated elegance. The Altima underwent a redesign for the 2016 model year, wisely avoiding the unconventional front grille and headlights seen on the Maxima—something we truly appreciate.

For the 2018 model year, Nissan has announced a focus on enhancing the Altima’s interior features and technology. Standard equipment across all trims now includes Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking, aligning with Nissan’s commitment to incorporate advanced safety technology throughout its vehicle lineup for 2018.

The updated Altima will offer five trim levels, as Nissan has removed the entry-level 2.5 and 3.5 SR models. The most affordable option now is the 2.5 S, priced at $23,140, while the top-tier Altima 3.5 SL is available for $33,510. Additionally, Nissan has refined its package offerings, introducing the Tech package, which includes Intelligent Cruise Control, and a Special Edition package (exclusive to the SR trim) featuring larger wheels and a NissanConnect infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capabilities—though these features come standard on the 3.5 SL.

The $24,200 Altima SR is designed for enhanced performance, complete with a subtle rear spoiler, sport-tuned suspension, smoked exterior lights, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel equipped with paddle shifters.

New on the 2.5 SL and 3.5 SL trims are innovative Zero Gravity front bucket seats, which Nissan claims are inspired by NASA technology.

The 2.5 version of the Altima features a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine producing 179 horsepower, while the 3.5 model boasts a robust V6 engine with 270 horsepower, with both models equipped with an Xtronic CVT for seamless driving performance.
