The Morgan Motor Company is reviving its presence in the U.S. market by introducing four-wheeled vehicles for the first time in years. After debuting the Super 3, Morgan’s quirky three-wheeled roadster, the latest addition will be the 2025 Morgan Plus Four, which is set to arrive but will be available in limited quantities, as reported by Hagerty.
Due to the Morgan Plus Four not meeting all U.S. safety standards for new vehicles, it will be sold under a replica car exemption defined in the FAST (Fixing America’s Surface Transportation) Act. This replica car clause permits certain automobiles to bypass most federal regulations, provided they “are designed to resemble the body of another motor vehicle manufactured at least 25 years prior to the replica’s manufacture.” Since Morgan has maintained its design language for over 106 years, the Plus Four qualifies as a replica vehicle, even though it features an entirely new platform.
The limitation of the replica car clause restricts Morgan to selling only 325 units annually. Consequently, interested buyers may face competition to secure their allocations, and the price tag will be significant. According to Hagerty, Morgan already has hundreds of customers willing to pay approximately $74,500 for the Plus Four. The Drive has reached out to Morgan for confirmation of this information and will provide updates as they become available.
In exchange for this investment, buyers will receive a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged BMW engine, producing 255 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This engine is the same one found in the BMW 230i, encased in superior-looking materials (metal and wood). In the U.K., customers can choose between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission for the Plus Four, but it remains unclear whether American consumers will have the same options. There is also uncertainty about the availability of the new optional Dynamic Handling pack, which includes adjustable Nitron suspension and a rear anti-roll bar, for U.S. models.
Morgan’s arrival in the U.S. with more of its distinctive vehicles is exciting news, especially as they stand out in an increasingly uniform automotive market. The Plus Four will offer American enthusiasts the chance to experience a truly unique four-wheeled automobile.
