It’s not often that a new suspension kit is introduced for a car that’s been on the market for 40 years. Nonetheless, KW has been expanding its V3 Classic coilover line over the last few years, with the Ferrari Testarossa being the newest model to benefit from this upgrade. Similar to the recently released KW setup for the Porsche Carrera GT, the Testarossa’s suspension comes with three-way manual adjustability. However, what sets the KW system apart from other options for the Testarossa is its hydraulic front-axle lift system, providing the classic supercar with a feature it previously lacked.
Prior to the launch of the new KW V3 Classic suspension, owners of older Ferraris often had to contact KW for custom suspension setups, which were then personally installed at KW’s headquarters. Now, Testarossa owners can conveniently order this kit online and have it shipped directly to their location worldwide, allowing them to have it installed by their preferred mechanic.
Interestingly, this suspension kit includes six adjustable coilovers since the Testarossa features two shocks per rear wheel. KW claims that the V3 Classic system enhances straight-line stability, cornering precision, and overall ride comfort. Given the significant advancements in suspension technology since the 1980s, it’s easy to believe these improvements. Additionally, owners can now fine-tune the height, compression, and rebound settings. Such three-way adjustability was not feasible for road cars at the time of the Testarossa’s original release, making this an exciting upgrade for current owners.
One of the most significant enhancements is the hydraulic front axle lift. The Testarossa’s low and extended front end often poses challenges when navigating steep driveways or speed bumps. With KW’s hydraulic front axle lift, the front suspension can be elevated by 45 millimeters at speeds below 40 mph, mirroring features found in many contemporary supercars. Just like the three-way adjustable dampers, front axle lifts were not an option for road cars when the Testarossa was new. As a result, this feature greatly enhances the usability of the classic Ferrari, encouraging drivers to take their vehicles out for more frequent drives. This is undoubtedly a positive development that most can agree on.
