The Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation (Headquartered in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President and CEO: Karl Deppen), known as MFTBC, will participate in the “JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW BIZWEEK 2024.” This event, organized by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc., is set to take place at Makuhari Messe from October 15 to 18, 2024. The show will coincide with “CEATEC 2024”, organized by the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association, making it one of Japan’s largest exhibitions dedicated to digital innovation. In an effort to encourage business collaborations, the event will feature business matching opportunities with startups focused on pioneering mobility solutions, in addition to product displays and booths. MFTBC is set to engage in the business matching program, fostering communication between startups and established enterprises to jointly tackle future mobility challenges.
MFTBC will showcase environmentally sustainable solutions featuring cutting-edge technology, encapsulated in their brand slogan “Future Together.” The company aims to innovate and present strategies that contribute to a carbon-neutral society. One highlight will be the eCanter SensorCollect, a conceptual model of a next-generation electric garbage truck equipped with an automatic tracking system, underscoring MFTBC’s dedication to eco-friendly mobility. This vehicle employs camera sensors at the front and rear to monitor driver movements outside of the truck, significantly minimizing the time and physical effort involved in waste collection. Based on the zero-emission eCanter EV truck, which produces no exhaust and features low noise and vibration levels, this electric garbage truck effectively combines environmental responsibility with advanced technology. Since 2021, MFTBC has been conducting demonstration tests on this truck in collaboration with Japan’s Ministry of the Environment.
MFTBC introduced its first concept model of the automatic tracking electric garbage truck, the eCanter SensorCollect, in 2020. The latest version being presented includes improvements such as SAE Level 2 driving automation for the driver’s automatic tracking system. This advancement has enhanced efficiency, reducing the effort needed from the point of arrival at the garbage collection site to the commencement of the collection process. The updated model also features a capability for recognizing and halting at the nearest waste collection point ahead of the driver.
Alongside the eCanter SensorCollect, visitors to the MFTBC booth will also see a display about “EVNION,” a new initiative launched in June 2024. EVNION PLACE, a comprehensive online platform for electric vehicle-related services, was inaugurated on October 1, 2024, with the goal of connecting all stakeholders involved in electric vehicles to promote a carbon-neutral society.

■ Concept model of an automatic tracking EV garbage truck, “eCanter SensorCollect” (actual vehicle on display)
The eCanter SensorCollect builds on MFTBC’s new model of the eCanter electric light-duty truck, representing a next-generation electric garbage truck that merges eco-friendliness with cutting-edge technologies. Equipped with camera sensors that act as mirrors and are positioned at the front and back, the vehicle can recognize when the driver exits the seat. Upon arrival at the collection point, the truck autonomously follows the driver. Additionally, it can be operated remotely through a wireless Human Machine Interface (HMI), which significantly reduces the need for the driver to get in and out of the cab, leading to shorter work times and less physical strain. The automatic tracking system offers SAE Level 2 driving automation functionalities. With the eCanter emitting no exhaust and featuring reduced noise and vibration during operation, the eCanter SensorCollect enables waste collection operations that are environmentally considerate. MFTBC has also created and implemented a waste information-sharing system that utilizes sensors to gather data on the weight, volume, and count of waste loaded into the truck, transmitting that data to waste processing facilities via the internet.

Launched in June 2024, the new company “EVNION” operates “EVNION PLACE,” an online platform for diverse electric vehicle services in Japan. This platform offers comprehensive services to customers, whether for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, or manufacturers. The service officially commenced on October 1, 2024.
