When driving the newly upgraded Kia Stinger GT, it’s unlikely anyone would think, “this car needs a convertible version.” However, a Florida Kia dealership has taken it upon themselves to create just that. The result, a prototype of Kia’s sports sedan with its roof removed, surprisingly boasts a compelling design, unlike many typical soft-top conversions.
Dubbed the Stinger GT-C by City Kia, based in the Orlando area, this conceptual convertible made its debut on Monday at a local car show, garnering considerable attention and a favorable response on social media. To bring this design to life, City Kia enlisted Jeff Moran of Drop Top Customs, recognized for their high-quality convertible modifications, notably for the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack.
With the roof removed and structural reinforcements in place, the Stinger was also fitted with minor performance enhancements to its chassis and drivetrain. Eibach lowering springs and an anti-roll kit were added, which allowed the 20-inch Axe forged alloys to sit more deeply within the wheel wells. The car’s weight was kept down by a Strictly Business body kit that utilized carbon fiber components.
Riding under that new composite hood is the Stinger GT2’s 3.3-liter twin-turbo Lambda II V6 engine, typically delivering 368 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. However, this configuration may offer even more power. It features dual Velossa Tech ram air intakes with AEM filters, a Mishimoto intercooler, and is coupled with Ultimate Performance downpipes and midpipes, leading to a custom cat-back exhaust. Collectively, these upgrades improve throttle response, which is further enhanced by RaceChip software modifications.
Despite claims made in an Instagram post by City Kia, a spokesperson clarified that the Stinger GT-C is still merely a concept at this stage, with no confirmed plans for production or warranty considerations. They did mention, however, that “there’s real-world testing to do,” implying that a production version might be a possibility.
