Did you know that Volkswagen produces ketchup? I certainly didn’t. While I was aware that Volkswagen is famous for its sausages—particularly the currywurst, which the company sells in nearly the same quantities as its cars—what I didn’t know was that they also offer a condiment to complement those sausages. For a limited period, the automaker is introducing its Gewürz Ketchup to the U.S. market.

If you’ve visited VW’s headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany, you might be familiar with Gewürz Ketchup. Many enthusiasts from North America often return home with bottles as souvenirs or gifts for fellow VW aficionados. However, there’s one American enthusiast in particular to thank for VW’s decision to import its ketchup to this side of the ocean: Jamie Orr.

In celebration of VW’s 75th anniversary in the United States, the company is highlighting fan stories, with Orr’s story catching the attention of the executives in Germany. A lifelong VW enthusiast, Orr initiated a car show in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to showcase VW vehicles and his custom builds. He awarded the winners of the event with bottles of the Gewürz Ketchup, displayed in a glass cylinder with a coil spring atop the bottle neck. Thanks to Orr’s influence, even more American VW fans will have the chance to enjoy the iconic ketchup.

Volkswagen’s ketchup is available in America for a limited time, or until supplies run out, although there is no specified end date. If you’re interested, you should place your order now. Each household is limited to one bottle, and delivery may take about two weeks as it ships from Germany. Fortunately, there is no charge; both the ketchup and the shipping are complimentary. If you’d like to sample it before placing an order, Volkswagen will have Gewürz Ketchup available at the ChainFest food festival in Los Angeles on October 5.

While Volkswagen currently does not offer models like the GTI with a manual transmission, a standard Golf, or even the ID.4 in America, at least they are giving us ketchup.
