The subcompact crossover market is thriving, and as the demand for crossovers continues, many buyers are turning to smaller alternatives for urban driving. Notably, a significant number of these consumers are rejecting traditional hatchbacks. Reflecting this trend, Honda reported a remarkable 30% increase in sales for the second-generation HR-V this year, making it the top-selling compact SUV in the U.S. as of April. In light of this success, the HR-V is set to receive updates for the 2018 model year.

In a press release issued on Friday, Honda North America announced that the redesigned HR-V will begin arriving at dealerships across the United States on August 14th, complete with new features. One of the highlights is Honda’s innovative Magic Seat technology, which facilitates various cargo configurations and offers an impressive 100 cubic feet of cargo space, rivaling some midsize SUVs in interior capacity. Additionally, all trim levels will now offer the new Aegean Blue Metallic color, enhancing the HR-V’s sporty and appealing aesthetic.

On the performance front, Honda claims that the updated HR-V will deliver improved handling and driving dynamics. It will be powered by a 1.8-liter i-VTEC engine that generates 141 horsepower, with all-wheel drive available on certain models. Moreover, it provides an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 31 miles per gallon, making the HR-V a fuel-efficient option. Every model will feature a continuously variable transmission (CVT), with a 6-speed manual transmission offered on select front-wheel drive configurations.

All trim levels of the HR-V will come equipped with Honda’s suite of driver assistance and safety features, including a multi-angle rearview camera, Hill Start Assist, Vehicle Stability Assist, and Emergency Braking.

The entry-level HR-V LX is priced at $19,570, while the fully loaded HR-V EX, complete with navigation and all-wheel drive, retails for $26,340. For anyone in search of an attractive compact SUV, the HR-V is definitely worth considering.
