Eagle, a renowned British specialist in E-Type restoration, has unveiled a new addition to its impressive lineup: the Spyder GT. This model joins other E-Type derivatives such as the Eagle Speedster, Eagle E-Type, and Eagle Low Drag GT.
As with all Eagle creations, the Spyder GT begins its journey as an unmodified E-Type before undergoing a comprehensive restoration and transformation. This process includes the incorporation of an updated aluminum monocoque featuring a lowered floor pan, enhanced sills, and expanded wheel arches designed to fit modern 16-inch wheels.
Eagle emphasizes retaining the car’s lightweight design, with the Spyder GT tipping the scales at around 2,200 pounds. Nonetheless, the interior is inviting and far from basic. It boasts period-correct Smiths gauges, a wooden steering wheel, and a more contemporary center console, creating a pleasant driving environment. The knock-off wire wheels add to the vehicle’s charm.
Beyond its aesthetics, Eagle has meticulously engineered the Spyder GT’s performance components. The vehicle is powered by a brand-new 4.7-liter inline-six engine that is both smooth and powerful, generating 330 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque. Key features include a billet crankshaft, an aluminum engine block, and classic SU carburetors that enhance its visual appeal. Additionally, a carbon fiber intake plenum facilitates a ram-air effect to boost performance.
Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a five-speed transmission, complemented by a limited-slip differential that aids in swift cornering—allowing for a lively driving experience, including drifting if that’s your preference. The adjustable Ohlins dampers provide stability, while AP Racing brakes ensure modern stopping power.
Each Spyder GT takes over 4,000 hours to complete, rivaling the craftsmanship of Singer vehicles.
