StreetFX has recently unveiled an impressive vehicle named the WTF86. This car boasts a 4.1-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine borrowed from the R35 Nissan GT-R, delivering a staggering 1100 horsepower. For further insights, be sure to check out the piece on the WTF86 by The Drive contributor Caleb Jacobs. During the Adelaide Motorsport Festival in Australia, StreetFX organized a roll race between the WTF86 and a Footwork Arrows Formula 1 car. Unfortunately, the WTF86 experienced a left-hand drive shaft failure, and the team was unable to fix it in time for the showdown. In its place, an R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R was ready to compete.
To set the stage, let’s examine the background of the R34 GT-R’s competitor. The Footwork Arrows Formula 1 car, identified as FA15, features a 3.5-liter Ford Cosworth V8 engine, generating 620 horsepower at a dizzying 10,000 rpm. This car took part in the Formula 1 season of 1994. Weight played a significant role in their competition, with the F1 car weighing in at just 515 kilograms (1,135 pounds) compared to the 1,300 kg (2,866 lbs) R34 GT-R. Despite the R34 carrying more weight, it is powered by a specially designed billet block RB26 engine that has been stroked to 2.8 liters, yielding 1,000 hp.
It’s worth noting that in the video, Mark Trueno of Street FX initially mentioned a differential failure, but it was later established that the driveshaft was the issue. Following the race, light-hearted banter ensued, especially from the Australian driver of the F1 car, Josh Kean, who claimed he “had to give a little bit of a show and make him look good” after accidentally shifting to neutral while reaching for third gear.
Is it just me, or does the way Australians pronounce GT-R sound the best?
I won’t reveal the outcome of the race here. For that, make sure to watch the video from Street FX Motorsport below.
