This month, the completely redesigned GMC Sierra was introduced in Detroit, showcasing its elegant aesthetics, innovative tailgate, and carbon-fiber bed option. GMC has successfully distinguished itself in an increasingly competitive truck market.
However, the models presented in Detroit were only the premium Denali and the nearly as impressive SLT versions. At Pier 36 in Manhattan, GMC took the opportunity to unveil the all-new Sierra AT4.
The 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 marks the launch of a new sub-brand focused on rugged performance. AT4, which signifies All Terrain 4, is designed for off-road enthusiasts who do not wish to compromise on luxury features and state-of-the-art technology. These trucks are for those who desire a full-size pickup capable of tackling rough terrains while enjoying polished leather interiors and a vibrant head-up display.
Visually, the Sierra AT4 significantly differs from the Denali and SLT models showcased earlier. It features a distinctive two-inch lift, a locking rear differential, skid plates, hill descent control, a traction select system, optional Goodyear Wrangler off-road tires, and prominent red recovery hooks to highlight its serious off-road capabilities. The heads-up display (HUD) in the Sierra AT4 includes an off-road inclinometer to provide real-time information on tilt angles and tire positioning.
The Sierra AT4 is powered by a standard 5.3-liter V8 engine, with an option to upgrade to a more powerful 6.2-liter V8, or a 3.0-liter inline-six turbo-diesel engine. Being designed for off-road use, four-wheel drive is included as standard. The 6.2-liter and 3.0-liter engines come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Anticipation is building to see what other developments GMC will introduce for the new AT4 sub-brand. If AT4 can replicate the success of the Denali in boosting transaction prices and contributing significantly to sales, GMC may have another lucrative product line on their hands. The 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 is expected to be available in early 2019.
