Breathtaking images of two wrecked Porsche 911s have emerged from the mountains near Los Angeles. The impact was so severe that one of the flat-six engines was dislodged and laid out on the roadway, with various parts scattered across the pavement as a rescue helicopter hovers in the background.

These striking images were shared by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department via X, showcasing the two vehicles involved: a 991-generation 911 and a more prestigious GT3 RS model. Initially mistaken for a 997 model, their actual location is Monte Cristo Campground along the Angeles Forest Highway, situated between Pasadena and Palmdale, just north of Angeles Crest. The police have referred to this area as Angeles Crest Highway, although locals often label these interconnected roads as “ACH.”

A frequent visitor to the forest and an informal host for car meetups, J Ryan noted that “Apparently one was making a U-turn and got hit by the other one,” indicating that no one suffered serious injuries. While this remains unconfirmed, it aligns with the visible damage observed in the photos.

It appears that the white GT3 RS collided with the rear side of the silver 911, which explains how the rear-mounted engine ended up on the ground. Fortunately, both cockpits and all the glass seem to be intact, suggesting that everyone involved is likely unscathed. However, it must have been a terrifying few seconds within those cars. Interestingly, the right taillight on the car without the engine is still functioning, as seen in the sheriff’s video footage.

While it’s not my place to cast judgment in situations like this, particularly when the full context is unknown, these striking images serve as an important reminder: never push your limits beyond what you can see. Remain cautious—any blind corner could hide a vehicle abruptly stopped or in a precarious position on the road.
