- Kia is developing the EV4, part of a lineup of 14 electric vehicles the automaker aims to introduce by 2027.
- The EV4 has been spotted on the road in hatchback form during testing.
- A stylish EV4 liftback version is also undergoing testing.
Kia has been caught testing a new body style of its forthcoming EV4 electric compact car.
Initially introduced as a somewhat disguised concept last year, the EV4 featured a modern liftback design, with prototypes of this version previously seen.
Recent spy photos reveal a prototype with a more conventional hatchback shape.
Both models are anticipated for launch next year, and should they arrive in the U.S., they will likely be designated as 2026 models.

It is expected that the EV4 will be built on Hyundai Motor Group’s versatile E-GMP platform, which is also used in models like the EV6 and EV9, among other Hyundai and Genesis vehicles. To keep costs down, Kia is likely to use the more economical 400-volt version of the platform instead of the 800-volt variant. This approach was similarly applied to the EV3 subcompact crossover that debuted in May.
The exact horsepower of the EV4 is still undetermined. Thus far, Kia has only unveiled the EV3 with a single electric motor generating 201 hp. The EV4 will probably offer the 201-hp motor as its standard option, along with a more powerful dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant.

The interior is projected to feature a minimalist design with a unified screen panel that serves as both a digital gauge cluster and infotainment system, similar to what was seen in the EV4 concept. During the concept’s reveal, Kia disclosed plans for a new AI-driven voice assistant, which will gradually be integrated into more of its models.
The EV4 is one of 14 electric vehicles Kia aims to include in its offerings by 2027. In addition, the company is also planning for two pickup trucks, a PV5 midsize van, and potentially an EV8 sedan to succeed the Stinger and K8 models sold internationally.
