Gordon Murray, renowned for creating the legendary McLaren F1, is gearing up to unveil a new car. His latest supercar will incorporate modern design elements while also honoring the principles that made the F1 a quintessential driver’s vehicle.

On Monday, Murray announced the launch of his automotive venture, Gordon Murray Automotive. This new brand will complement his existing company, Gordon Murray Design, which focuses on engineering solutions for both manufacturers and racing teams. So far, only two vehicles have been previewed, designed as city cars intended to rival the Smart ForTwo. However, Murray is shifting his focus back to the supercar segment, where he has made his mark.

According to Murray’s company, plans for a new vehicle are already underway, with additional information expected in the coming weeks. It has been revealed that this new model will be rooted in the design principles of the McLaren F1, focusing on simplicity and lightweight construction. Notably, part of the weight savings will involve a product Murray developed two years ago.

In 2015, Murray introduced the iStream, a modular platform designed for Yamaha. While it may not have the excitement of a McLaren, it is significant as a lightweight foundation for future vehicles. This modular design allows for wide-ranging applications beyond a single model. Many automotive manufacturers adopt a modular approach to streamline production, reduce costs, and promote component-sharing. In Murray’s case, this design method will be used to create highly efficient, lightweight, low-volume vehicles.

Details about the new vehicle will be unveiled at One Formula, an exhibition showcasing Murray’s achievements over the past fifty years. This special event will highlight his contributions to motorsports and vehicle design, featuring both rare and unreleased concepts. While information about the flagship car will be a central focus, the extent of the details shared remains unclear. More information about the new vehicle is anticipated in the first week of November.
