Classic 1968 Chevy C20 with Del Rey Camper Available for Bidding

As summer approaches, outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy road trips and camping—without the hassle of traditional tents—have an exciting opportunity. Up for grabs on Bring a Trailer is a beautifully vintage 1968 Chevrolet C20, complemented by a stunning tri-level Del Rey “Sky Lounge” camper.

The listing displays over 600 images showcasing the vehicle, which is impressive not for its style but its immaculate condition. This C20-camper combination stands out due to its pristine upkeep and features a gold and white color scheme that radiates a dreamy aura.

A Pristine Vintage

Initially, the truck’s appeal didn’t come easy. This C20 model, the CST Custom Camper, is a Golden Anniversary edition that was ordered from a Denver dealership and stayed within one family for nearly five decades. The original owner took great care of it, even requesting the dealer to cover the factory carpet with plastic upon delivery. This thoughtful preservation kept the carpet in mint condition until its sale, and while the plastic is no longer present, the truck is in remarkable shape.

According to Gateway Classic Cars, who facilitated the original sale, the owner added a compatible camper—this model was designed with camping in mind, although it wasn’t part of the initial purchase.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, the C20 is powered by a robust 396ci V-8 engine that delivers 235 horsepower and 345 pound-feet of torque, coupled with a three-speed automatic transmission. Over the years, various enhancements have been made, including the installation of dual saddle tanks in 1970 to extend driving range, a dual exhaust system added in 1985, and a reupholstered driver’s seat in 1990.

A paint refreshment was completed in 1991 using only approved "Sikkens" paint, further maintaining its aesthetic appeal. That same year, a heavy-duty tow hitch and new timing chain were also installed.

Fitted for Adventure

Now part of the current owner’s collection since 2023, this classic Chevy features a period-appropriate 1966 Del Rey Sky Lounger Camper. This tri-level camper is outfitted with amenities akin to those found in tiny homes, such as a full kitchen, a bathroom complete with a shower, a dining area, and sleeping quarters. Although snug, the overhead loft area boasts wrap-around windows, offering a perfect observation deck.

The original owner maintained comprehensive records of the vehicle’s history, carefully documenting every receipt and detail. The current owner continues this tradition, retaining paperwork related to the Del Rey camper as well.

Local History and Auction Details

Although located in California, the C20-Del Rey combo bears Montana title and plates. The odometer originally read 92,075 miles upon listing, but it now shows 94,327. The current owner indicates that they have driven it for about 1,000 miles since then, suggesting potential discrepancies regarding the total mileage.

The auction is set to close on June 7, and previously, the truck alone fetched an asking price of $49,000. This time, the integrated package comes without a reserve, allowing bidders a chance to own a near-authentic 1960s camper experience.
