On Friday, Toyota revealed that it will produce its inaugural Lexus luxury yacht, the LY 650. This yacht becomes the fourth entry in Lexus’s prestigious lineup, which also includes the LS sedan, LX SUV, and LC coupe. Measuring 65 feet, the yacht is crafted with the “L-finesse” design language, as stated in a press release. The completion of the yacht is anticipated in 2019.
Speculation about Lexus’s entry into the yacht sector began in 2017 when the company showcased the Lexus Sport Yacht Concept at the Miami Boat Show. Earlier this year, the concept received the “Boat of the Year” title at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama. During this event, Lexus confirmed plans for the yacht’s production, as Toyota Motor Corp.’s Executive Vice President, Shigeki Tomoyama, announced a partnership with the esteemed boat manufacturer Marquis-Larson.
Toyota’s official announcement indicates a strong desire to uphold the brand’s luxurious image while extending its reach from automobiles to aquatic adventures.
“Lexus is continuously seeking new avenues to provide innovative and exceptional experiences for our customers,” remarked Yoshihiro Sawa, President of Lexus International.
For Tomoyama, transitioning from a mere concept to an actual product offers a chance to “illustrate a dream-like vision of the luxury lifestyle, where the Lexus Yacht enhances the concept of Lexus mobility to the ocean.” To accomplish this, Toyota selected Marquis-Larson Boat Group for manufacturing, sales, and service of the vessels.
Lexus aims to finalize the first LY 650 in the latter half of next year, with a global launch set for late 2019. Although there is no official pricing yet, Lexus has begun accepting orders for those interested in acquiring a yacht.
