Broadcasting, sports, and streaming companies are making the switch to software-defined infrastructure to reap the benefits of flexible deployments and easier integration of advanced AI technologies.

NVIDIA Holoscan for Media, now available in limited release, is an AI-driven, software-defined platform that enables live media and video workflows to operate on the same framework as AI. This facilitates the use of applications from a developer ecosystem on reconfigurable, NVIDIA-accelerated, commercially available hardware, improving production and distribution capabilities.

Holoscan for Media presents a comprehensive platform for live media applications from both established and emerging vendors. The offerings include AI captioning, live graphics, vision mixing, playout servers, encoding, decoding, transcoding, multiviewers, and Networked Media Open Specifications (NMOS) controllers, with more features set to be added in the coming months.

Developers utilizing Holoscan for Media can streamline their development processes, enhance customer delivery, and incorporate new technologies while maximizing research and development budgets.

Built on industry standards like ST 2110 and standardized application programming interfaces, Holoscan for Media is an internet protocol-based platform that adheres to rigorous density and compliance standards. It includes essential services such as Precision Time Protocol (PTP) and NMOS for interoperability and management, making it suitable for the demanding environments of live broadcasting.

Industry Adoption of NVIDIA Holoscan for Media

Organizations with live media workflows are increasingly adopting software-defined infrastructure as they evolve to the next stage of live media production and delivery. The number of partners sharing this vision, including Beamr, Harmonic, Pebble, Qvest, RAVEL, RT Software, Speechmatics, and Spicy Mango, continues to expand.

“The Holoscan for Media platform harnesses the powerful combination of live video and AI. This synergy, accelerated by NVIDIA’s computing power, naturally aligns with Beamr’s advanced video technology and products,” stated Sharon Carmel, CEO of Beamr. “We are confident that our Holoscan for Media application will significantly improve the performance of media pipelines by efficiently optimizing 4K p60 live video streams.”

“NVIDIA is establishing the groundwork for software-defined broadcasting, enhancing live media with extensive computing capabilities and a developer-friendly ecosystem,” remarked Christophe Ponsart, executive vice president and generative AI practice co-lead at Qvest, a leading global technology and business consulting firm. “This level of local computation, together with NVIDIA’s robust developer tools, empowers Qvest as a technology partner and integrator to innovate rapidly, leveraging our deep industry knowledge and client connections to create a significant impact.”

“With NVIDIA Holoscan for Media, leveraging the power of Red Hat OpenShift results in a scalable, cloud-native framework for next-generation live media applications,” explained Gino Grano, global vice president for America’s telco, media, and entertainment at Red Hat, a leading provider of Kubernetes-powered hybrid cloud solutions. “This enterprise-grade open-source platform enables cable and broadcast companies to achieve more seamless deployment and management of media applications, thus enhancing flexibility and performance across various environments.”

“Speechmatics is thrilled to deepen our collaboration with NVIDIA and become the first speech-to-text provider on Holoscan for Media,” said David Agmen-Smith, director of product at Speechmatics, a prominent provider of speech AI solutions. “This partnership enables lightning-fast and highly accurate captioning to be broadcast with remarkable ease.”
