People who ignore “Do not block” signs often find themselves in disputes over their parking violations. Instead of facing the penalties for their careless parking, some might resort to desperate measures, like stealing a tow truck and speeding off, as their vehicle drags along and collides with parked cars. Ah, the nostalgia of New York City.

As reported by News 12 New York, a business in Sunset Park requested a tow for a Chevrolet Silverado that was obstructing its service doors. As the tow truck operator worked to hook up the offending truck, its apparent owner arrived on the scene.

Following a heated exchange marked by aggressive arguments and accusatory gestures, the visibly angry Chevrolet owner (the taller of the two men involved) took control of the tow truck. He sped away in an astonishing display of road rage and an apparent obsession with Chevy pickups.

Importantly, this incident did not involve a flatbed truck. As the driver sped off in the stolen tow truck, the Chevy was left precariously tilting in the back, slamming into anything in its path. The driver’s door, which was reportedly ajar during the theft, was nearly ripped off its hinges. Numerous vehicles were damaged down the block before the tow truck finally made a turn.

Captain Chaos’s reckless spree came to a halt just a few blocks later when he collided head-on with a city bus.

This attempted towing occurred on 53rd Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues. According to the New York Post, the suspect abandoned the truck and fled on foot at 55th Street and 3rd Avenue. It seems he didn’t have much attachment to his pickup after all.

Victims of the property damage are understandably in shock, with some unable to afford the extensive repairs their cars require. The local community is equally perplexed by the escalation of events but grateful that, while the cars sustained damage, no injuries occurred to Brooklyn residents. Authorities are still on the lookout for the individual who stole the tow truck, whose identity remains unknown.
