Car enthusiast Andy Bruce is the proud owner of a unique McLaren F1—the McLaren F1 GTR race car, specifically Team Lark McLaren GTR #13R. As the holiday season arrives, Bruce decided it was time to utilize his exclusive race car to fetch a Christmas tree.
The McLaren F1 GTR, which participated in the All Japan Grand Touring Championship in 1996 representing Team Lark, was driven by notable racers Naoki Hattori and Ralf Schumacher. Alongside chassis #13R, there was also chassis #14R in the race.
In a recent conversation, Bruce shared insights about a video where he details the process of securing the Christmas tree atop his vehicle. He humorously remarked, “No problem. Plenty of bubble wrap and tank tape. Used suckers from a bike carrier for the hood’s front.” When asked if any challenges arose during the adventure, he explained that he cautiously avoided high-speed turns, noting the chilly 2 degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit) left the tires cold, eliminating any concerns.
Bruce observed another unique vehicle—a Ferrari F40 that had been recently used for camping—and I inquired if he had similar ambitious plans for his F1 GTR. He expressed that this was his first attempt at such an event, indicating that if it resonated well, he would consider more such outings. “The world needs more daily-driven McLaren F1s,” he added.
In the accompanying video, viewers can admire Bruce’s one-of-a-kind F1 GTR as it cruises through picturesque scenery, ultimately showcasing the car with a Christmas tree on its roof. The video concludes with Bruce maneuvering the Team Lark F1 GTR down his gravel driveway and parking it alongside his Team Lark-themed McLaren P1 GTR.
