The anticipation for the new Chevy Corvette ZR1 has been building for what feels like an eternity. Expected to be the most extreme factory Corvette yet, the ZR1 is likely to feature the Z06’s 5.5-liter V8 engine with a flat-plane crank, enhanced by twin turbochargers to deliver astonishing horsepower. Excitingly, the wait is nearly over, as the vehicle is set to make its debut on July 25.
On Thursday, Chevrolet confirmed that the unveiling is just over a month away. While the company’s press release was sparse on details, it did include a brief video showcasing the car’s exhaust note.
Fans will likely notice some boost sounds at high RPMs in the audio clip, supporting previous speculation that the last teaser hinted at the presence of turbos. A key question remaining is whether Chevy will integrate the Corvette E-Ray’s electrified front axle to further enhance performance. While the powerful V8 will provide plenty of power, it remains to be seen if Chevrolet will push the envelope even further.
