When Cadillac unveiled the new CT6 V-Sport at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, there was considerable excitement surrounding its sporty design and the exclusive 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, which delivers an impressive 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. However, what many enthusiasts truly desired was a full-fledged V model.

It appears that Cadillac is about to fulfill that desire, albeit in an unexpected way. According to Automotive News, the positive reception of the CT6 V-Sport has led Cadillac to rebrand the vehicle as the CT6-V. Rather than sticking with the V-Sport designation, the company is integrating this sporty sedan into its range of high-performance V-series vehicles.

For those unfamiliar with Cadillac’s naming conventions, it’s important to note the distinction between the V-series and V-Sport models. The V-series includes the CTS-V and ATS-V, which represent the pinnacle of Cadillac’s performance lineup. In contrast, the V-Sport trim enhances standard Cadillac models with improved features without reaching the performance or pricing levels of the V-series.

For instance, the CTS V-Sport is equipped with a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, starting at a price of $61,695. In comparison, the CTS-V, which inherits the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine from the Corvette Z06, generates 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque, commanding a higher starting price of $86,995.

In essence, the CT6 V-Sport has been upgraded to the CT6-V. Despite this new title, the vehicle will not experience any mechanical changes compared to the V-Sport model showcased in New York. While it would have been ideal for the CT6-V to outshine or match the CTS-V in terms of performance, it’s hard to overlook the allure of a Cadillac sedan boasting 550 horsepower..
